Cleaning the bathroom, unclogging a toilet, removing a bee’s nest from your property – let’s assume these are not “a few of your favorite things.” But look closely at these and other typically unpleasant chores, and you’ll find there’s almost a simpler and easier way to get them done.
Today, let’s focus on bathroom cleaning – getting it done to your complete satisfaction but in less time and with less aggravation. Isn’t that worth a minute of your time?
Let’s have at it.
- Remove all items that don’t belong in the bathroom and find homes for them elsewhere. Your list might include dirty clothes, jewelry, shoes, robes and more.
- Throw away anything you no longer use or that’s already expired, including make-up, sunscreen, and prescription medicines.
- Go green. Spray a chemical-free cleaner in the shower and tub, on the countertops, and in the toilet. Let the cleaner “get to work” on those surfaces while you sweep the floors and clean the mirror. Afterward, wipe down the counters, scrub the toilet, and then the shower. You’ll save time and prevent inhaling cleaning products heavy in chemical content.
- While you’re cleaning, identify obvious problem areas, such as:
- Too little drawer space? Shelves with baskets underneath the sink can solve that problem.
- Too little space overall? Wall-mounted shelves, including over the toilet, can help make the most of a smallish space.
- Too much counter-top clutter? Choose soap dispensers and toothbrush holders that attach to the wall to create more counter space.
- Circulate air. Increase the amount of air circulation and light in your bathroom to stem the tide in moisture content – that in turn will help prevent mold. Use a vent fan during the shower and for roughly 30 minutes after, turn on air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and open windows.
- Keep a few cleaning products in the bathroom for low maintenance cleaning. Sanitizing wipes, a toilet scrubber, glass cleaner, and small trash bags combine to make a great cleaning kit, one that fits neatly in a bucket or caddy.
- When wiping mirrors, you may have noticed streaks being leftover. Try using a microfiber cloth sprayed with a mixture of water and vinegar. This will keep the mirrors clear and free from streaks.
- If your toilet has some buildup of calcium or lime, grab a purple or blue Gatorade and pour the contents of one bottle in the bowl, letting it sit for one hour to eat away at mineral content. Then flush your toilet and it should all be gone. If not, use a toilet brush to wipe away the residue!
